web hosting server – india or abroad?

is thr any issue with a hosting server abroad? indian web hosts charge lot more higher and far less space and features.bt i heard its better to opt for indian server.any1 can explain

  1. I dont know anything about Indian web hosts but I can tell you from personal experience Yahoo is absolutely wonderful and very very affordable. Give them a try. You get free 24/7 support along with their Yahoo Sitebuilder software which is sooo easy to use anyone can. You will love it…. and it is only $11.95 per month.

  2. If you live in India yes, it’s probably more convenient to host your stuffs in India. Are you talking about a dedicated webhosting service? If yes, hosting in India, might allow you walk in access to their data centres if you want to upload stuffs onto your server. If you host it abroad, obviously you dont’ve the luxury to do that. I live in Singapore and the dedicated webhosting services are topnotch.

  4. Points to consider while hosting in US(abroad) vs India :
    1. What if your server goes down or some of your services(eg.smtp/pop) are not responding? How easily can they be contacted?Cost of a phone call?
    2. Ping some of their websites and check the response.Above 250ms should not be acceptable.
    3. If your site visitors are mostly indians, host in india.
    4. Hidden charges. Some US service providers charge to reboot a server. Affordable? Sometimes, even tech-support is chargeable. Worth it?
    5. Most Indian web hosting companies that host in US are resellers. Some do close down their low-profit margin businesses overnight. What then?
    If you are serious about your business and its uptime, host in India. By this, I mean, your website IP should be in India. showmyip.com is a good website that allows you to find the physical destination of an IP.
    Yes, bandwidth is dirt cheap abroad.
    1mbps 1:1 capped bandwidth is rs.36000 per month in india, as compared to rs.9000 per month in Singapore. http://www.webvisions.com is a very good webhosting company in Singapore and my previous company hosted their servers with webvisions.
